My girl just lost her second tooth. I'm wracking my brain for creative ideas that will make the tooth fairy a fun and meaningful experience. Anybody?

i mix glitter and baby powder, then make fairy footprints through my house with my fingertips from a window (or something) to her bed and a little under her pillow and all over the money i leave in place of her tooth. Sometimes, the toothfairy even writes little "thank you for the tooth" notes to my daughter ;) She LOVES it!

      on the note idea....

if your kid ever loses a lost tooth (like down the drain or on the soccer field) have them write a note to the tooth fairy telling her where the tooth is

True Story.....when I was six or so I lost a tooth and couldn't find it. My mom was in a college biology class at the time and took a tooth from the dead cat they were disecting and gave it to me as a replacement for the tooth fairy. I thought that was so cool. Notes work too though :)

    *sigh*

I recently had my 8 year old come up to me, all hurt and said..

"Liam (his older brother) just told me that, um, there isn't no tooth fairy because he saw you putting the money under his pillow and but I think he's trying to make me cry like when he told me there was no Santa but then Santa left me presents so I'm not sure." *sob*

    Liam is a punk.

    Heh.

My 8 year old is very innocent and sweet - and it's hard in that by this age he should be able to handle the unveiling of Imaginary Characters (aka Lies That Parents Love To Tell) but he still has Magical Thinking. But he's getting some logic, even if he doesn't like the results. *sigh*

I don't know what to say except that he'll hurt the fairy's feelings if he says things like this and he won't get his money. *ouch*

What's the going rate for TFs now? My ex set the bar way too high at $5...oy.

So, EZB, what did you go with? I'm dying to hear!!

On a side note, I am a Registered Dental Assistant among other things, and deal with the whole Tooth Fairy issue pretty regularly. Most of the older kids just toll their eyes if you even insinuate they believe in such a thing, but they don't scoff at mom or dad giving up the money! To end the whole Tooth Fairy issue, aka "when they find out it's us!" we told our son that the Tooth Fairy only comes until you are a certain age (you pick that age right about the time they confront you with the whole 'it's not real' conversation) and then it's the family who pick up where the Tooth Fairy left off.....so that explained it for our boy and seemed to sit well with his rational though as well as left open the idea of some mystical even that is fun to believe in. When it came down to it though, we always just used a little, silver tin, made just for the Tooth Fairy, lined with velvet and all shiney that could be set out anywhere in the room, like a dresser, making it easier for us to get in and get out without disturbing him.

Actually, my daughter still believes (11 years), but this is how we couch it. Majic is a very mysterious thing, and the only people who see it and experience it are the people who can believe in it. That's the truth. The details really don't matter.

Well, in this case there was no tooth to give to the fairy. On top of that was the fact that she lost it while sleeping at her mom's house, then was with me the next night. They looked for her tooth in the morning to no avail. Swallowed? I dunno!... Luckily her mom sucessfully convinced her that the tooth fairy knew which house to go to anyway.

My girl loves to color, so we were working on a picture together before bedtime, and it came to me that writing a note to the tooth fairy would be a good thing to do on this picture. My girl was all for it! So, she dictated and I wrote...

      "Dear Tooth Fairy,
This little girl lost a tooth.
      Her name is Olivia.
      Her daddy is Eric.
Have a nice night in the sky."

That's was it. Tooth Fairy brought a small handheld mirror (to closely monitor the new incoming teeth) and a little princess coloring book. No money, and no candy (which is what her mom gave her for the first tooth, Uhggg).

Olivia's reaction to the little gifts was lack luster at best. Oh well. I'm glad I didn't try some glitter/powder concoction, although I considered it! Thanks for the feedback Treja and everyone!

Hey. I know this is an older post; but chances are that your kid or kids are still gonna be losing teeth. I have a couple of gr8 ideas that i've used on my daughter, and cannot wait to use on my son when he loses his teeth. The first one is that I usually sprinkle a bit of glitter onto her pillow and wherever the "fairy" leaves the "treat". I put a little in her hair too! She always thinks it's fun to show her buddies her "proof" that the tooth fairy really exists. I also switch things up a bit each time. One time I left a sparkly necklace for her with a small note that had tiny barbie shoe footprints next to the tooth fairies signature. Another I used silver paint and embossing powder to "gild" three coins, as "fairy currency". The last time I foded a dollar bill into a teeny tiny heart shape...I was trying for the shirt fold, but i forgot how (now I know that it's on youtube...Duh me!) I have left trails of tiny candies leading to her dollar or quarters. (As u can tell, I don't leave alot of cash, but I do try to make it fun and creative. How much do u remember getting a buck? But a buck covered in glitter is ubercool!) So there is a starting point for some cool memories 4 ur kids! I'm sure u can come up with some other fun ideas too. If u don't need 'em, maybe u can pass them to anoter parent.

I'm told that different cultures have different "tooth fairies." There's a book called "Throw Your Tooth on the Roof," or somesuch describing some. I think it's Mexico that has "Dr. Mouse" instead of the Tooth Fairy...

ps ~ If you're already typing out complete words (i.e. not texting in shorthand), go ahead and write out the word "you." Or not--Just a suggestion to try to make writing more enjoyable to read.

Somewhere, on a tv show? movie?, dunno know, but they put the tOOth in a glass of clear water; Then when the "tOOth fairy" came for the tOOth, they would take it out and add a few drops of blue food coloring to the water for that showed the tooth fairy had been there.

Natasha's explanation was wonderful. My 8 year old is at the age where he's questioning these things, so we are constantly having talks about Magical Energy....")
